NC block president shot at, injured in attack

ANANTNAG, Mar 14: Unknown gunmen on Thursday fired upon and critically injured a political activist and zonal president for National conference (NC) in Bijbehara area of southern Anantnag district.
Police said militants opened fire on the political activist.
Reports said the unidentified gunmen, fired upon 60 year old Mohammad Ismail of Dopatyar after he had gone to his nearby orchard.
After being hit by the bullet NC activist, they said, was left in a pool of blood and was evacuated to sub-district hospital Bijbehara. After being given first aid, the doctors at Bijbehara hospital referred him to Srinagar for advanced treatment.
Ismail, party sources said, was the staunch activist of National Conference.
NC president and former chief minister Omar Abdullah in a tweet prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured party activist.
"My JKNC colleague Mohammad Ismail Wani, block president Bijbehara in South Kashmir has been shot and injured. He has been referred to Srinagar. Praying for his recovery," Omar tweeted.
Police has registered a case into the incident and initiated investigations.
"We have registered a case into the incident and have set the investigations into motion," a police official said.
