Student detention and assault; Omar expresses anger through tweets

SRINAGAR, Feb 3: Former chief minister Omar Abdullah has expressed over two incidents involving Jammu and Kashmir students who were detained and thrashed in Haryana and Bhopal.
Two students from Rajouri Aftab Ahmed and Amjid Ali were thrashed in Haryana when they were on way to University after offering Friday prayers.
Another student Mohammad Idrees from SKUAST was detained by Bhopal police. The student was part of the group who were on tour to Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chandigar.
Omar Abdullah in a series of tweets expressed anguish over such type of harassment.
“ It’s these sorts of things that @HMOIndia and the interlocutor need to put an end to before the state Govt puts money in the budget for “Bharat darshans,” he tweeted.
In another tweet he wroted: This hyper-nationalism built around the propaganda that all Kashmiris are terrorists & stone pelters will drive young Kashmiris further away from the national mainstream.”
In yet another tweet, Omar wrote: “Students from our premier Agriculture University are detained & one is arrested. It seems one of their fellow passengers didn’t like traveling with a group of Kashmiris.”
“This is terrible & goes against the spirit of what @PMOIndia @narendramodi ji said from the ramparts of the Red Fort. I hope the authorities in Haryana act quickly against this violence,” Omar tweeted.
