India, Pak trade fire in Mendhar

MENDHAR, Nov 29: Pakistan army Wednesday yet again resorted to unprovoked firing targetting three forward Indian posts in Krishna Ghati sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district.
This was ceasefire violation for the third consecutive day by Pakistan in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
Defence spokesperson, while confirming the ceasefire violation by Pakistan troops, said, “The Pakistan army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing from small arms, automatics and mortars from 1430 hours in the Poonch sector along the Line of Control." “The Indian side also retaliated strongly and effectively,” he added.
According to local sources, the firing started at 2.30 PM targetting three forward Indian border posts viz., Kranti, Kirpan and Ghoda under the domination of 22 Sikh Regiment. “Pak troops used HMG, LMG, rockets, 80 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars to target Indian posts. After maintaining restraint for a while Indian side also retaliated in equal measures. The exchange of fire between the two sides continued till 4.30 PM. However, there was no report of any casualty or damage on our side,” they added.
Pakistan forces had yesterday breached the truce in the Sunderbani police station area. On November 27, Pakistani troops opened fire in the Jhangar forward area in Rajouri. Pakistan had violated the ceasefire for three consecutive days from November 15 to 17 in Jammu and Poonch.
