Centre, J&K taking steps for peace, development: Nirmala

SRINAGAR, Nov 12: Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman today said centre and state government are jointly take steps for peace and overall development in Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to reporters after a meeting in Pahalgam, she hailed the state government headed by Mehbooba Mufti for its measures for peace and development. The defence minister said centre is committed to help state government for peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir.
She said the people of the valley need to understand that they cannot live in isolation.
Sitharaman, who was on her second visit to the valley after taking over the portfolio of Defence, was here to attend the meeting of Executive Council of Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports in world famous health resort of Pahalgam.
“The centre is committed for overall development of the state and various steps have been taken in this direction, including several central sponsored schemes,” she said.
Sitharaman further said chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has also taken swell of measures to develop the state.
However, she said that the people of the valley need to understand that they cannot live in isolation. “People should understand that they need to live together with everyone to flourish and grow,” she added.
The defence minister was in the valley for two days September 29 on her maiden tour during which she visited forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) and also reviewed the security situation at the border and hinterland in Kashmir.
“It was a pleasure to host @nsitharaman for the General Body Meeting of Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering & Winter Sports in Pahalgam today,” Mehbooba wrote on micro-blogging site twitter. Defence minister thanked the chief minister for her hospitality.
