Internet services restored

SRINAGAR, July 9: Following return of normalcy, train services were resumed today after remaining suspended for two days for security reasons in the Kashmir. Mobile internet services were also restored.
Both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference and the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) had called for strike on the first death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani yesterday, when authorities had imposed restrictions in most areas in Srinagar and south Kashmir.
The train services were suspended on July 7 for security reasons. “We have resumed the train services in the valley following direction by police and civil authorities,” a railway official said today.
Train services have been resumed between Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir and Baramulla in north Kashmir, he said, adding that the train service from Badgam-Srinagar and Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu has also been restored. All trains are running as per schedule, he said.
“We are acting on the directions of the state police and authorities, who are taking the decision to suspend or resume train services, keeping in view the security and safety of the passengers and railway property,” he added.
Railway property suffered damage worth crores of rupees in the past due to violence. However last year, the service remained suspended for six months due to summer unrest.
Mobile internet services were also restored. The service was suspended as a precautionary measure, an official said.
