Ramban accident toll mounts to 14

BANIHAL, Feb 17: The death toll in yesterday’s minibus accident at Battery Chashma on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway mounted to fourteen with the death of three more injured passengers in Government Medical College (GMC) hospital, late last night.
Those, who succumbed to their wounds at GMC hospital, have been identified as Ashraf Ali Khan son of Asgar Ali Khan and Ghulam Mohammad Naik son of Abdul Subhan Naik, both residents of Nachlana, Banihal and Ishfaq Ahmed son of Mohammad Ayub resident of Halla Dandrath, Ramban.
Official reports said that unidentified accident victim lying in the hospital since last night has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf, son of Karim Bakh of Noorabad Kulgam. His kin have reportedly been informed about the fate less accident. The death toll mounted to fourteen.
The accident victims, who died on the spot and Ramban hospital were identified as Ghulam Hassan Wani son of Lassa Wani of Saloora, Ganderbal, Mehraj Din son of Ghulam Ahmad of Soura Srinagar, Molvi Farooq Ahmed son of Mohammad Sadiq Mir of Saloora Ganderbal, Mohammad Ashraf son of Karim Baksh of Noorabad DH Pora Kulgam, driver Ishtiyaq Ahmed son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganai of Batmaloo, Srinagar, Ghulam Ahmed Malik son of Ghulam Hassan Malik of Ganderbal, Shabir Ahmed son of Mohammad Yousuf of Digdole, Bashir Ahmed Bangroo son of Ghulam Qadir Bangroo of Tangbagh Srinagar, Farooq Ahmed Mir son of Ghulam Nabi Mir of Kralpora Chadura Budgam.
The injured were identified as Nazir Ahmed son of Mohammad Ramzan of Shopian, Mohammad Rashid son of Faqir Din of Rajouri, Hamida Begum wife of Ajaz Ahmed of Budgam, Ajaz Ahmed son of Ghulam Qadir of Budgam, Zakir Ahmed son of Ghulam Nabi Naik of Chamalwas, Banihal, Mohammad Iqbal son of Edhu Sheikh of UP district Bagpat, Reyaz Ahmed son of Ghulam Hassan of Baramulla, Mohammad Amin son of Ahmedu Naik of Nachilana, Banihal, Mohammad Afzal son of Mohammad Ramzan of Shopian, Ghulam Ahmed Wani son of Ghulam Rasool Wani of Kachan, Ganderbal, Shabir Ahmed Khatana son of Haji Mohammad Ayoub of Bidder Kokernag, Tarlok Singh son of Sardari Lal of Nowshera Rajouri, Ifshana daughter of Ajaz Ahmed Sheikh of Budgam.
Those referred to GMC hospital were identified as Angrez Singh son of Ashru of Jakhed, Udhampur, Maneeb Ahmed son of Ghulam Qadir Khanday of Kashmir, Mohammad Ramzan Khanday son of Ghulam Mohammad Khanday, Nazir Ahmed of Srinagar, Ali Mohammad Khan son of Ghulam Mohammad Khan of Budgam, Abdul Majeed Ganai son of Akbar Ganai of Tethar Banihal, Mohammad Yasir son of Mohammad Shaarief Naik of Pernote, Ramban, Imtiyaz Ahmed son of Mohammad Hanief of Tajnihal Banihal, Ghulam Ahmed son of Ghulam Hussain of Ganderbal, Mohammad Ashraf Khan son of Afran Ali Khan of Nachilana Banihal, Ashfaq Hussain son of Mohammad Ayoub of Halla Dhandrath Tehsil Ramban, Rakeela wife of Fareed Ahmed of Udhampur, Farooq Ahmed Bali son of Attah Mohammad Bali of Khari Manjoos, Banihal, Mohan Singh son of Mathra Dass of Gaam Ramban, Ghulam Rasool Wani son of Ghulam Hassan of Ganderbal, Srinagar, Tulsi Ram son of Ananat Ram of Gaam Tehsil Ramban, Mohammad Ayaz son of Abdul Rashid Naik of Nachalana, Radhey Kumar son of Ved Parkash of Kotliwal Udhampur, Tazem, son of Farooq Ahmed Mir of Kralpora Srinagar, Ghulam Mohammad Naik son of Abdul Subhan of Nachlana.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Ramban M H Malik today visited District Hospital for taking stock of the health care facilities being provided to the accident victims who were injured in accident at Battery Chashma on February 16, 2014. Malik interacted with the victims admitted there and enquired about the health care facilities being provided to them by the health authorities. During his visit DDC was apprised that three more deaths have been reported from the patients referred to GMC Jammu. Deputy Commissioner directed CMO and Medical Superintendent Ramban to keep medical and para-medical staff available in the hospital so that proper care of the victims and other patients admitted there can be ensured.
As reported eleven passengers were killed and 32 others were injure when an overloaded minibus in which they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge at Battery Chashma yesterday.
