Militant commander killed in Rafiabad

SRINAGAR, Nov 24: Police has claimed to have killed a Jaishe-Mohammad militant commander in an encounter at Chatlor village in Rafiabad today.
Police said the slain militant was working as the JeM’s chief commander.
“On the basis of specific information about the presence of JeM commander in the house of Ali Mohammad Bhat at Chatlor Rafiabad, a police party with the assistance of army sealed the house last night,” a police spokesman said.
He added that in the wee hours today when the search party led by sub inspector Dilraj Singh entered into the house, the militant hiding there fired upon the search party. Sub inspector Dilraj Singh got injured, the police spokesman added.
“In the exchange of fire that lasted for some time, the Pakistani militant commander of JeM t who was operating under the code names of Showket, Shazeb, Shoib, Yasir got killed,” he added.
According to police, the killed militant was wanted in a number of cases. “He had infiltrated into the Valley in year 2002 and was active in Kupwara and Sopore area since then. He was involved in killing of zonal president of a political party, Ghulam Mohammad Mir and a local leader of another political party Ghulam Mohidin Bhat, besides other subversive activities.”
An AK series rifle, one pistol along with other arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site, the spokesperson added.
