3 journalists detained in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Oct 13: At least three journalists are facing detentions in the aftermath of the civilian killings earlier this month, leading to a spike in fresh raids and arrests across the Valley.
Newsportal Kashmirwalla reported that Srinagar-based photojournalist, Mukhtar Zahoor, who works as a stringer with the BBC, was detained in a mid-night raid from his residence in Dalgate area of the city last night.
Two journalists have been detained in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district by the Jammu and Kashmir police in the last week for “questioning”. Both continue to be in detention – one among them for the past five days.
Salman Shah, 30, editor of an online weekly magazine – Kashmir First and 21-year-old Suhail Dar, a freelance journalist, both the residents of Anantnag district, have been detained as per their families.
On 8 October, at around 4 PM, Dar had received a call from the police asking him to report to the Sadder Police station, Anantnag. When he left, he was detained, his family said, according to the report. The other two journalists were arrested from their homes.
The families of all three were clueless as to why they had been detained. According to Kashmirwalla, different police officers they contacted said that the detained journalists were being questioned but none of them divulged the grounds of detention.
Late evening reports said that Mukhtar Zahoor was released in Srinagar.
