Anti-encroachment drive; Teargassing at Soibug

SRINAGAR, Feb 22: Police today used tear gas shells to disperse some persons who allegedly attacked a demolition squad with stones at Soibug in Budgam district.
Reports the government had received information that some people have encroached land belonging to the Wildlife Department and erected tin sheds there.
A team led by Tehsildar Budgam Nusrat Aziz arrived in Soibug area to assess the ground reality. A team from Wildlife Department also arrived on the spot and found tin shed being erected by some unknown people.
As the team launched demolition drive, some people pelted stones on them. Police swung into action and fired tear-smoke shells to disperse miscreants.
A police official while confirming the incident said that all the tin sheds erected illegally were removed from the state land and the local people later supported the anti-encroachment drive.
