Ubaida Colony seeks new transformer, appeals authorities to resolve issue

SRINAGAR, Feb 20: Residents of Ubaida Colony, Rangpora Illahibagh today appealed the authorities to install new power transformer as the existing one being overburdened does not cater to the energy needs of growing population in the locality.
A delegation from Ubaida Colony told this newspaper that power supply is equivalent to zero as the existing transformer which supplies energy to more than 100 households being faulty drops voltage thereby providing extremely low voltage to consumers.
They said that a delegation of locals met higher-ups of PDD in this regard who sanctioned new transformer for the locality and sent proposal to Deputy Commissioner’s office for release of funds.
“We met the concerned higher-ups in this regard and apprised them about the problems consumers face due to the decades old transformer. We are thankful to Superintending Engineer and Executive Engineer Division 4 for their cooperation, however the funds which have to be released by DC are yet to see the light of the day,” said Ashfaq Ahmad a resident.
He said the Power Development Department (PDD) despite sanctioning new transformer after necessary inspection; consumers are yet get any relief.
The aggrieved residents of Ubaida Colony, Rangpora said instead of utilizing funds on identified projects, district administration has allotted rupees 2 crore to Education department.
“We were shocked to know that 2 crore rupees which are aimed at streamlining power sector have been allotted to Education department. It’s quite unfortunate that instead of rationalizing problems people face, authorities keep on compounding them,” he added.
When contacted Executive Engineer, Division 4 Khanyar, Sheikh Hilal Ahmad said the department after proper inspection can sanction new transformer but the funds required for work have to be released by DC.
“The aggrieved residents can meet me any time. We will see what department can do. We can only sanction new transformer that too after proper inspection rest funds are to be released by DC,” said the Xen.
