Woman dies due to alleged negligence of doctors

ANANTNAG, Feb 20: A 50-year-old woman, who was undergoing treatment at District Hospital Anantnag for last eight days, died due to the alleged negligence of doctors in the hospital, family said on Thursday.
According to reports, the family of Raja Banoo, wife of Ghulam Mohammed Banoo, resident of Magray Pora in Achabal area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district said that she was admitted to the hospital a week before with a fracture in her left leg.
They said today that at around 3:30 PM, she was taken to the operation theatre for a surgery in her leg. “At least 15 minutes after she was taken to the operation theatre in quite normal condition, the doctors informed us that the lady has died due to cardiac arrest,” they said.
The family members and relatives of the deceased lady protested and alleged that lady has died due to medical negligence, stating that the doctors had given their beloved a general anesthesia and due to overdose of anesthesia, she developed severe health problems and died even before surgery.
The protesters also broke the windowpanes and glasses of the hospital, adding that they demanded that an enquiry team must be constituted who will investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, Principal Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, Dr. Showkat Jeelani said, “After the allegations leveled by the family members and relatives, we have started investigation in this regard.”
“The lady was having pre-existing cardiac issues due to which we preferred not to give her general anesthesia, he said.
However, he said that a committee comprising three senior doctors has been constituted in this regard to investigate the matter. “If any doctors will be found involved in any kind of negligence, severe action will be taken against him,” he said.
