SRINAGAR, Jul 23: Thousands of patwaris and girdawars of the state today extended their strike by five more days.
Today was the eighth day of their strike in protest against the state government’s failure to remove the pay anomaly of around 900 patwaris.
The decision to extend the strike was taken at a meeting of All Jammu and Kashmir Patwar Association, which was presided over by president Afaq Ahmad Shopiani.
Afaq said the state government did not fulfill its commitment of removing the pay anomaly by the end of March. “The commitment was made during a meeting between the representatives of our association and revenue minister and other government officials,”he said.
“Since the government showed no response we decided to extend the strike by five days. In case there is no response till July 28 even, we may extend the strike further,” the president of the association said.
