SRINAGAR, Jan14: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday expressed deep anguish over the loss of lives and property in the recent snowfall, seeking immediate rehabilitation of affected.
Party's senior leader and former legislature Mian Altaf while expressing concern over the loss of lives in the recent snowfall said, "It is painful to see so many people lose their lives to the vagaries of weather. The normal life in Ganderbal district has come to a grinding halt. Scores of people have suffered losses to their property and live stock. Many unfortunate were devoured by the heavy snowfall. Hundreds of houses, cow sheds and other edifices have incurred heavy damages. Many precious lives were also lost to the fury of nature. What has aggravated the situation is the abject absence of administration from ground. People have literally been left to fend for themselves. People aren't getting succor from any side. Far from improving its institutional efficacy, the local administration has again been caught napping. Administration inertia has severely affected the working of every department. The ground staff of various departments is not visible on ground. The governance deficit has increased disenchantment among masses."
Mian Altaf also expressed dismay over the pesky electricity supply in the valley. "Come winters and the requirements of people increase. Coming of winters in this part of the world is dreaded by people, as it increases their woes by leaps and bounds. However during the ongoing winter season, the paucity of electricity, shortage of water supply and inflation has broken the already trembling back bone of people. People aren't receiving relief from any quarter. The local administration has failed to meet the exigencies of the winter related errands."
Meanwhile, party's Member of Parliament from Baramulla Muhammad Akbar Lone while expressing concern over the havoc played by vagaries of weather said, "Far-off villages and hamlets in snow-bound areas of north Kashmir, Chenab valley and upper tracks of Pir Panchal are mired with plethora of problems. Resumption of connectivity is the main issue. Every times it snows; it takes days together to resume connectivity to all those snow bound areas. Moreover the administration seems to have no contingency plan to meet any such eventualities as road blockages, paucity of LPG, Kerosene oil and other household merchandise. The remote areas in Kupwara, Bandipura, Baramulla, and Gurez have long ago been rescinded from the development radar of government. People living in these areas are yet to overcome from the losses of previous snowfalls of undergoing winter season, not to speak of the recent one."
Member of Parliament while seeking immediate redressal of the woes of people said, "The administration is duty bound to come to the rescue of people in the snow-bound areas. The need of the hour calls for having roving squads to check price rise. The administration is expected to put into action its men and machinery to restore road connectivity to all snowbound regions. In addition the GOI should on priority basis improve the connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar systematically and in a time bound manner. Meantime free meals should be provided to passengers as have stuck on the Srinagar Jammu highway."
Meanwhile party's district president Peer Afaq has expressed deep concern over plethora of problems faced by people in Srinagar in wake of recent heavy snowfall. The urban life of Srinagar is in mess. The city roads have literally been converted into cesspools. The roads are beset with log-jams. Pot-holes have become a distinctiveness of city of roads. Electricity is playing hide and seek with the consumers."
The party leaders have impressed upon the administration to recompense the losses to the affected. In addition to it, the leaders have impressed upon the administration to rise to the exigencies of people following heavy snowfall.
