Rotary Club opens at Akhnoor

AKHNOOR Jul 22: Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture Sham Lal Sharma today called upon the people particularly youth to be equally conscious about their rights and duties to grow as responsible, disciplined and good citizens.
He stressed that everyone must discharge his duties as a good citizen if he or she wanted the country to grow and prosper. The Minister who was chief guest at the installation ceremony of Rotarian Pawan Sharma and his team for the Rotary years 2012-13 late last evening at Akhnoor, was addressing the participants.
The Minister said that the education is a powerful tool that develops the desired and desirable values in younger generation. He said education was not merely acquisition of knowledge and skill but it must inculcate moral values and a sense to understand the culture and heritage.
Describing public utilities essential ingredient in the development process, Sham said that the co-relation of various schemes under different department was imperative to redress development needs of the growing population of the towns. He also said that a religious tourism project was in offing to attract tourist in the area. He said an alternative road from right bank of Chenab to Kathaar upto Shiv Khori would be constructed.
Earlier the Rotary Club President and his team gave away prizes, trophy and certificated to the best performers. The club also gave a tricycle to handicapped women on the occasion.
Sham wished the newly elected president and his team of Rotary Club, Akhnoor great success in their endeavours. He also announced to donate a piece of land for club installation at Akhnoor.
