Dear Editor,
It refers to media-reports about Sikh-community being generous in accepting to remove a 72-year old Gurudwara to pave way for construction of National Highway connecting Baramula and Srinagar. Even in Islamic countries, mosques are shifted or removed if they obstruct development-work like construction widening of new roads.
Similar generosity should be shown by citizens of all religions and management of religious places to shift religious institutions including temples, gurudwaras, mosques, churches etc in larger public-interest for carrying development-work. But unfortunately in India including especially in Delhi, management of religious places obstruct such requirements of shifting religious places. Rather it has become a fashion of privilege to encroach public-land including roads and footpaths for extending religious places, even despite court-rulings.
There are many mosques in Delhi which are obstructing main roads like at Janpath, Baba Kharagsingh Marg and Odeon-crossing at Connaught Circus. Apart from these, mosques are being extended breaking all rules to encroach roads and footpaths like two mosques at two extreme ends of main Subhash Marg at Daryaganj with civic authorities not taking any action. Big problem was created during metro-work when some people overnight created a mosque at Subhash Park obstructing a much-required gate of Jama Masjid metro-station at Daryaganj crossing.
