LG Ladakh reviews situation post Zojila pass closure

Intervention of MoD, MHA sought

LEH, Dec 12: Lieutenant Governor Ladakh RK Mathur Thursday called an emergency meeting of the top officials of the UT attended by Advisor and Commissioner/Secretary and gave directions to immediately assign a Nodal Officer from Kargil House in Srinagar to visit Gagangir and Sonamarg to look into the welfare of the stranded passengers of Leh and Kargil following closure of Zojila pass.
In view of the sudden closure of the Zojila pass by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, the Administration of UT of Ladakh took several measures.
The administration of UT Ladakh wrote to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to revisit the decision of closing the Zojila Pass before time and take steps to reopen the road so that stranded passengers can be facilitated and move from both sides of Zojila.
In addition MoD and the Ministry of Home Affairs have also been requested to intervene and provide immediate sorties of IL 76 to evacuate the stranded passengers by air. The matter was being closely monitored by the LG Union Territory of Ladakh.
