PDD employees oppose privatization, warn agitation

SRINAGAR, Dec 11: Employees of Power Development Department (PDD) warned valley wide agitation incase the government does not revoke its decision to unbundle power sector in Kashmir.
Employees who have been protesting against the proposed unbundling of PDD and JKSPDCL said they have been left with no other option than to hit streets along with their families against the decision.
They alleged that the government by privatizing the power sector not only affect thousands of employees and their families but also alienate consumers.
“Our protest is genuine and we will continue opposing the decision until the government revokes its order. Our genuine apprehensions regarding our employment cannot be taken for granted,” they said.
Warning valley wide protests, they said the decision to unbundle power sector is totally illegal which incase implemented will leave thousands of employees working in PDD and JKSPDCL jobless.
The agitating employees said the Lieutenant Governor of recently formed Union Territory keeping in consideration the genuine apprehensions of employees must rollback the decision at earliest.
“We were completely sidelined when government took the decision to unbundle power sector and subsequently issued orders in this regard. This decision is totally wrong and we will oppose it tooth and nail,” they added.
They also said that privatizing two major units’s including PDD and SPDCL will certainly create a sense of alienation among the consumers and employees of the departments.
