Pak shells border posts, villages in Poonch

POONCH, Dec 9: Pakistan army on Monday yet again shelled forward Indian border posts and the villages on the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote and Shahpur sectors of Poonch district.
PRO Defence Lt Col Devender Anand said, “This afternoon Pakistani army fired four mortars in Balakote sector of district Poonch. Initially Indian army did not retaliate.”
Later in the evening, Pak army violated ceasefire in Shahpur sector of Poonch also by resorting to fire targetting Indian posts and the civilian population. Besides it resumed heavy shelling in Balakote sector again around 9.15 PM.
“Heavy shelling was on in Balakote and Shahpur sectors. Indian army is also giving befitting reply to the enemy,” PRO Defence said.
Police said this afternoon at around 12.50 PM, Pakistani army opened unprovoked fire on civilian areas and Indian forward posts along LoC in Balakote sector. “Later this evening at around 3.55 PM, Pakistani army also violated cease fire in Shahpur sector of Poonch district by resorting to small arms firing and mortar shelling,” it added.
Pakistan has been repeatedly violating the ceasefire in Rajouri and Poonch districts of J&K.
According to official statistics, there have been 950 incidents of ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir region from August to October.
“There have been 950 incidents of Ceasefire Violations along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir region during the last three months (August to October 2019),” Minister of State for Defence, Shripad Naik had said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
The Union Minister had said that the appropriate retaliation was carried out by the Indian army. In the reply, he had also said that the violations of ceasefire and infiltration were taken up with Pakistan authorities at the appropriate level through the established mechanism of hotlines, flag meetings, Directorate General of Military Operations talks as well as diplomatic channels between the two countries.
