PDP can’t get 50 seats in assembly polls

SRINAGAR, July 30 : Chief minister Omar Abdullah said PDP cannot get 50 seats in assembly elections.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here he said, “PDP can never get 50 seats in elections. How can Mufti Mohammad Sayeed resolve Kashmir issue when his party would never reach the 50 seat mark? He can say anything. Why he did not resolve the issue when he (Mufti) was in coalition with Congress and other parties and was having more than 50 seats,” Omar said.
Chief minister denied that Ladakh is heading towards Union Territory (UT) status. “Ladakh is not heading towards any UT status. The only thing that we are doing is making sure that whatever constitutionally has been guaranteed to them in the form of the hill council, those powers are made available to them. Please understand that there is still necessary administrative relationship between the state and Leh and Kargil,” he said.
Opposing the bifurcation of state on Telangana lines, Omar said that it is very important that state like Jammu and Kashmir even with its diversity should always remain united.
He warned that the states created on the basis of agitations could act as incentive to those who are agitating for similar demands from other parts of the country.
“Are you encouraging people that you agitate for few years and you will get a separate state. What you would tell to the people of Jammu if they come on roads and would demand for a separate state. Would you tell them to keep on agitating for eight to 10 years and your demand would be fulfilled,” Omar said.
He said Telangana sort of precedent that “we have set to create states on the basis of agitation is a dangerous development.”
“Telangana is the state created on the basis of agitation. It is not created on the basis of any recommendations of a State Reorganization Committee or something like that. I believe that this is a dangerous trend because all we are doing is sending a message out that if you agitate enough, you would create a state,” chief minister said adding that for the creation of a state it is important to form a State Reorganization Committee.
