Sajida Zameer passes away

SRINAGAR, Oct 16 (AGENCIES): Former Director Education and a freedom fighter, Sajida Zameer Ahmad, passed here today after a prolonged illness.
As an educationist, Sajida Zameer Ahmad, did a lot of spadework to bring women into education. She was also associated with the Quit Kashmir Movement in its later stage when she had joined the Women’s Self Defence corps in 1947 and worked actively in various refugee camps.
Hailing from Batote, she was married in Kashmir and became a prominent social figure in Kashmir, contributing in various ways to society. Her contribution for education and women is unforgettable and her death has been widely mourned.
Sajida had been suffering from cancer and she battled it for several years before she passed away. She is survived by her son, Muneer Ahmad.
