Woman dies due to ‘medical negligence’, shutdown in Tral

Protesters ransack hospital building, equipment's, furniture

SRINAGAR, July 27: The death of a pregnant woman due to the medical negligence at sub-district hospital Tral, triggered complete shutdown in the town besides massive protests by the family members and locals. The angry protesters also ransacked the hospital building and equipment's in the hospital.
District administration ordered inquiry into the matter and formed an inquiry team comprising of five doctors posted at different hospitals of the district.
Afrooza Banoo wife of Tariq Ahmad Bhat was admitted in the hospital yesterday after she complained of labour pains. Doctors, after examining the woman, suggested her immediate surgery and took consent of her husband for the same.
Family members alleged that the doctors gave the patient overdose of anesthesia due to which she died. “Doctors kept her for hours in the operation theatre and after realising that she will not survive, they referred her to Srinagar. However she died the news about the death of the woman
spread on way to hospital,” they said.
This morning as the news about the death of the woman spread in the town hundreds of locals assembled in the hospital premises and staged massive protests. The protesters also ransacked the hospital building, equipment's and furniture of the hospitals.
They were demanding stringent action against the doctors responsible for the death of the woman. All the shops, business, establishments, and other offices remained closed in the town against the death of woman due to the medical negligence.
Later top officials from district administration reached the spot and pacified the protesters assuring them action against doctors involved.
