Plantation drive to be launched in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, July 24: To add green cover in the district, the district administration has decided to launch a plantation drive along the National Highway and Dhar Road in district .
The decision was taken here today at an officers meeting of different departments with the District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Mrs. Yasha Mudgal in the chair.
The meeting finalized the preparations for the launch of plantation drive on either side of Dhar Road and National Highway, which mainly included procurement of variety of sapling, digging of pits, area to be covered, provision of tree guards.
About 10 Kms stretch on both the roads would be covered with the plantation of sapling of different species of plants, the meeting decided.
The DDC also instructed the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) to procure about seven varieties of plant saplings including, Gulmohar, Bottle brush, Katchnar, Ashoka, Weeping Willow, Alstonia to add an attractive and fresh look to the road leading to the town.
The DDC instructed the school Education department functionaries to extend the plantation drive at school level. For the purpose, she asked Dy Chief Education Officer to submit the Zone wise list of schools to be covered under the drive so that requisite number of plant saplings would be provided for the purpose.
Mudgal called upon the officers of different departments to work in a close coordination for the successful conduct of the drive. A committee was also constituted with Additional District Development Commissioner as the nodal officer, to monitor the launch of the plantation drive.
