ANANTNAG, July 19: Suspected militants on Friday shot dead a personal security official (PSO) of People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Sajad Mufti in Bijbehara township of south Kashmir.
Sajad Mufti is the cousin of former chief minister and PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti.
Officials said the militants fired upon the PSO of Mufti when he was standing guard outside the mosque in Baba Mohalla locality of the town, where Muftis live. He was identified as Farooq Ahmad of Khiram Bijbehara.
He was immediately evacuated to sub-district hospital Bijbehara where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
"Mufti was offering Nimaz in the Mosque when the attack took place," officials said.
The militants, reports suggested, after carrying out the attack also snatched the rifle from the cop before fleeing the spot.
However, the reports of rifle snatching could not be officially confirmed.
Police later paid floral tributes to the killed cop at district police lines Khanabal.
