SRINAGAR, June 23: Member parliament and National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah today said that security forces should not stop public and private transport on Srinagar-Jammu national highway and harass people while they are traveling.
“When I was traveling towards Pahalgam yesterday, I saw security forces stopping vehicles, harassing drivers. They should not hamper smooth travel of the people. This should stop. Nowhere in the world do we see people stopped on highways and harassed,” he told reporters in Pahalgam after teeing off a golf tournament.
Movement of public and private transport was banned for two days in a week during parliamentary elections by the government after the Lethpora fidayeen attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed. However, the ban was lifted.
But the security forces stop the movement of civilian traffic for some time during the movement of security convoy on highway.
