CJI pleads for non-political appointment of judges

Dear Editor,
It refers to Chief Justice of India while addressing Chief Justices and judges of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation on 18.06.2019 calling for need of non-political appointment of judges.
But in India, unfortunately persons with active political backgrounds and at times even having contested election on a party-ticket, can be found appointed judge at High Courts or Supreme Court. Any person having been active in politics at any time in his life, must not be appointed judge in any court including Supreme Court and High Courts. Ideally speaking, there should be a ban on judges joining political party after demitting office as judge. However a retired judge may be allowed to be in legislative system as an independent member.
Department of Justice should make a study about all persons having been appointed in Supreme Court and High Courts who might have been active in politics or having even contested any election especially on a party-ticket. Such names should be made public for an analysis of their role as judges.
