Louis Braille Memorial School organizes World disabled day
Provide ample opportunities to disabled students at par with others: Gul

JAMMU, Dec 6: Advisor to Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul today appealed the civil society to come forward and share their love and helping hand to rehabilitate the disabled persons in the State.

The Advisor was addressing at an impressive function held at Louis Braille Memorial Residential School for Sightless Girls at Roop Nagar, Jammu, the function was organized by National Federation of the Blind,(NFB) J&K chapter.

Gul said that the State government has already launched a number of welfare programmes for rehabilitation of the disabled youth to compete with others.

The Function was attended by District Development Commissioner Kathua, Zahida Khan, Director Social Welfare, Jammu, M.H. Bhatti, Project Director Serve Siksha Abhiyan Yasha Mudgal, Sanjay Gupta, President NFB, and Ram Dass Dubey General Secretary NFB, senior officers of Social Welfare Department, teachers and a large number of blind students

Gul said that the disabled students of the State have best talent but the need of the hour is to channelize it in such a way so that they can compete with others. He said that various programmes have been launched in the State to provide education and other needs to the disabled students at their doorsteps adding that the central government is providing liberal funds under education sector.

Gul appreciated the organization for conducting such kind of programmes, as the hidden talent of these students of the state will be explored.

Responding to the demands put forth by the National Federation of Blind, he assured the gathering that the Coalition Government is very serious about their demands. He said that the quota in the Government services as demanded by the Association is under due consideration of the government.

Meanwhile, the Advisor said by winning all the four seats of Council Elections indicates that this coalition Government has got the clear mandate from the Panchs and Sarpanchs which are themselves the representatives of the people.

Director Social Welfare, Bhat in his speech gave resume of the welfare schemes launched by the government for the upliftment of deserving disabled persons of the State. He appealed the disabled people to take benefit of the schemes launched for their welfare and betterment. He said several new initiatives have been taken by the government to extend on-line facilities to the beneficiaries regarding disbursement of relief to aged, widows, physically challenged and also pre and post matric scholarship, pension to the disabled.

Later, Gul distributed awards to the best performer by the disabled student for the year 2012.

Earlier the students of the Residential Schools for Blinds enthralled the gathering by presenting various colorful cultural programmes.
