MUMBAI, Mar 18: All Bangladesh players and support staff members have returned home and joined their family after the traumatic escape in New Zealand.
Not reached home is their coach Steve Rhodes. Unlike several other foreign coaches of the Asian teams, who prefer to return home soon after the tour, Steve Rhodes has decided to first come to Bangladesh with the team.
"I always feel it is right to come with the team in Dhaka first. I am part of the team and I think it is the right thing to do. Yes, it is my own choice and will try to adhere to it", speaking exclusively over telephone from Dhaka, he said.
Rhodes was about 800 meters away from the mosque where this incident happened in Christchurch.
"I will spend a few days in Dhaka before returning to England to be with my partner and children and again coming back to Bangladesh for the World Cup preparations".
Rhodes had a meeting with the BCB officials on Sunday.
"I can not comment on the discussions we had but it will be up to the BCB to think of appointing a security manager for every tour".
"The players are given a break for about one week and we are planning to hold a seven-day camp after this", he further added.
"The players will be given counselling and if needed, the BCB will hire the professional help", Dr. Debashish Chaudhary, the physician attached with the BCB, said.
"We are planning to do a general assessment tests for these players and will be speaking to individual players. Special counselling will be given to needy players. Sadness and mental trauma are two different things and will be dealt with as required", he added further.
On Monday, the two senior players -Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyadh- attended the special prayer session in the small mosque attached with the BCB premises. "It was for the safe return of the team", one of the BCB officials told to this Reporter.
Bangladesh team is scheduled to play a tri-series with Ireland and West Indies (May 5-17) before the 50-over World Cup (May 30-July 14).
