Infiltration bid foiled: Army

SRINAGAR, July 19: Army today claimed to have foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control ( LoC) in Gurez sector killing a militant and injuring another in the operation.
Giving details, a defence spokesman said, based on specific information from intelligence agencies regarding likelihood of militants attempting infiltration in Gurez Sector of the frontline Division of North Kashmir, troops detected three militants moving in the forest area on the our side of Line of Control.
“The militants were immediately engaged by firing from the post located along the fence. The fire was very effective and resulted in the elimination of one militant, while the remaining two managed to escape under the cover of thick foliage. However, a militant was observed to be injured,” he added.
The spokesman stated that an AK 47 and two rucksacks containing war like and other administrative store were also recovered from the site.
“Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, the Chinar Corps Commander, commended the troops for their dedication and high degree of alertness. He also congratulated all the security agencies for their synergy and said that the operation in Gurez Sector was a mark of unity,” the spokesman said.
