Yatra to remain suspended today

SRINAGAR, July 19- According to an official spokesman due to prevailing situation and restrictions imposed in the valley, the Amarnath yatra shall remain suspended for tomorrow also.

Following tension, no fresh batch of Amarnath pilgrims was allowed today from Jammu for Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, police said.

Traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway was closed since midnight last night as a precautionary measure.

Divisional commissioner Kashmir Shalinder Kumar said yatra had to be suspended from Jammu due to the blockade of Srinagar-Jammu highway at several places.

Cabinet condemns excessive use of force
SRINAGAR , July 19: The state cabinet which met here under the chairmanship of chief minister Omar Abdullah today condemned the excessive use of force in Gool area. It extended condolences to the bereaved families and sympathies with those injured in the firing incident, official sources said. Cabinet also extended extra ordinary ex-gratia of Rs five lakh each to the next of kin of those killed in the firing incident. It further ordered that government job will be provided to a family member
