Police foils NHM employees' march

SRINAGAR, Feb 12: Scores of National Health Mission (NHM) employees were detained today after police foiled their proposed protest march to Raj Bhawan to press for their demands including regularization.
NHM employees have been on strike for the past 27 days in support of their demands including regularization and equal pay for equal work.
Police charged batons and sprayed pepper gas after NHM employees took out a protest rally from Pratap Park to Raj Bhawan here this afternoon. Earlier the protesting employees staged dharna at Pratap Park to press for their demands.
Scores of employees were taken to preventive custody after police foiled their protest march at Residency Road.
The slogan shouting NHM employees said that the government must fulfill their demands without forcing them to intensify their protest.
They said the regularization of service, equal pay for equal work has been their prime demand which is yet to be considered by the government thus forcing them to hit streets.
“We have decided to continue our protest till our legitimate demands are met. So far we peacefully demonstrated our issues, if the government continues to ignore our problems we will intensify our protest,” said NHM Employees Union President.
A police official said that the employees who were detained at Kothi Bagh police station were later released.
