‘No govt can be formed in J&K without Cong’

ANANTNAG, July 17:Stating that the decision to revoke the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) lies with the unified command, state congress chief, Professor Saif-u-din Soz today said that no human rights violation by the armed forces will be tolerated.
“Media always misinterprets me. I never talked about keeping or revoking AFSPA but one thing which I have been saying is that the act is temporary one and can never have the permanent status. The act has to go one day and there is only one organization which can decide about the revocation of the law,” Soz told media men on the sidelines of a rally at Seepan Anantnag.
He said that AFSPA is not a public issue but a security issue. “Being the security issue discussing the act in public will not be out of danger. So if unified command takes any decision with regard to the revocation of the act I will be the first person to agree with the same,” Soz said.
Soz however said that no human rights violations will be tolerated under the grab of AFSPA. “I cannot personally compromise with my principals to remain silent on HR violations. Soon after the Sumbal incident took place I spoke to defense minister A K Antony who assured fair probe and stringent action against the people involved,” Soz said.
“I have always been saying that AFSPA is a temporary law and has to go one day. But there will be no tolerance to rights violations under the garb of the act. I personally spoke to union defense minister after the Sumbal incident and he assured action against people involved,” Soz said.
He said that ‘nobody will be spared’ were the clear words of the defense minister in reaction to the killing of youth in Sumbal.
“We should not be mute to the HR violations but fight against them,” he added.
Asked about his claim about the formation of government by the congress alone, Soz said, “I never claimed the formation of government alone but I can claim with confidence that congress will its largest numbers in the state in next elections. We earlier entered into coalition with PDP and then with NC for good reasons. This time it will be a coalition again but Congress will gain a highest number of seats.”
He said that no government can be formed in the state without Congress. “My assertion is that Congress is the power and nothing can happen in the state without Congress,” Soz claimed.
