IGP Jammu declares open ‘Christmas Soccer Championship’
Young Rovers drubs Param F.C. in Opening match

JAMMU, Dec.1: Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone Dilbag Singh today declared open the “Christmas Soccer Championship” at Science College Football Ground, here.

Fr.Kuriakose head of the Gandhi Nagar Church presided over the function, whereas DIG Jammu JP Singh was the guest of honour and SSP Jammu ,V.S.Sambyal was the special guest on the occasion.

Around 14 teams drawn from different districts of Jammu and the Kashmir are participating and is being organized by Christian Sports Organization J&K in collaboration with J&K Police Department and J&K Football Association, with the objective to celebrate the Festival of Christmas with all masses through sports , to promote the sports culture and to channelize the energy of the youth in a right direction. The slogan of the Christian Sports Organization J&K is “Be Healthy – and Don’t Do Drugs”.

In the inaugural match, Young Rovers drubbed Param FC by 3 goals in an great contest.

first Goal was scored in 18th mints. by Rakesh Roshan, Second Goal in 23rd mints by Vishal Angral, third Goal in 45th by Rahul Verma for Young Rovers and in last mints only one goal in 60th mints by Arun Naghial of Param FC.Thus , Young Rover won the match by 3-1 goals.

The match was officiated by Rajiv Dev,Saudager Mattoo,Clint Mattoo and Harmanjeet Singh.

Earlier, in his address, IGP Dilbag Singh lavished praise the Christian Sports Organization J&K for conducting this Soccer Championship on Christmas festival and give platform to all of us to join together and celebrate the festival of Christmas .

He further said that many youths of our state are involved in various illegal activities like bad company and drugs etc. and in order to divert their focus and bring them to the main stream, sports activities are the need of the hour for the better health and better future of our youths. He also assured full help from the Police department, so that the sports culture shall always live in Jammu also.

Elijah Sotra and Moon Stephan are the organizing secretaries of the tournament and the tournament is organized under the overall supervision of Sh. Rajesh Gill, President of Christian Sports Organization J&K.
