Decomposed body of 10 yr old abducted girl recovered in Bhaderwah
S Rangrez/Swarn Singh
DODA/BHADERWAH, July 13: The decomposed body of a minor girl, who was allegedly abducted by her neighbour on July 3 was recovered from Human-Nalthi in thick bushes after 10 days of her abduction from Nalthi Park about 9 km from Bhaderwah town.

Some locals of village Sartingal, who reportedly went to the river side to collect sand and there they noticed a badly decomposed body in the bushes near a natural cave on the banks of Neeru River at Human-Nalthi.

On the basis of information given by the locals, police recovered the naked body of the 10-year-old girl Kajal daughter of Rakesh Kumar of Kach-Nalthi near Nalthi Tourist Park in the bushes at 2 PM.

The victim was kidnapped by her neighbour Tirath Singh, 26, son of Som Raj on July 3 after he lured the minor and took her to Nalthi Park which is 1 km from Kach village.

In his statement, chowkidar of Nalthi Park has said, “On July 3 at around 5 PM Tirath came to the Park Restaurant with minor girl in intoxicated condition and ordered cold drink for the girl. Later, seeing him drunk, I asked him to let the girl go but he snapped back by saying that she is her relative and he himself will take her home. Thereafter, they crossed the river and went to the other side of the park.”

SHO Bhaderwah Sanjay Manhas claimed that as per evidence and preliminary investigation, it seems that the girl might have been raped by the accused, adding that a case has been registered against him and hunt is on to nab him since July 4.

It is notable to mention here that after the failure of Bhaderwah police to arrest the accused and recover the minor girl massive protests were held in Bhaderwah town on July 6 by students and local for casual attitude of the police and civil administration in nabbing the culprit.

“He (Tirath Singh) should be handed-over to us and be hanged in full public view,” demanded Mohammad Ashraf Butt Sarpanch Sartingal Panchayat, adding that it is because of the in-different and casual attitude of Bhaderwah police that these kind of heinous crimes are becoming a routine in otherwise peaceful Bhaderwah valley. It shows the inefficiency of police that after 10 days of Kajal’s abduction, the accused is still at large, he further said.

It is notable to mention here that police allegedly refused to lodge an FIR today after another minor girl was reportedly abducted from Sherakhi village of Bhaderwah till the last reports came in.

Later, after protest a case FIR number 98 of 2013 under section 363 RPC has been registered in this regard. Today section 302 RPC has been added in the FIR.

Bhaderwah Police led by ASP Roop Raj Bhaghat and SDPO Jameel Ahmed constituted two special teams and conducted raids at number of places at Gandoh, Bani, Basoli but the accused is still at large. Police recovered one empty can of beer, her clothes, shoes and a ‘beedi’ bundle from the spot. The body was sent for post mortem and was later handed over to her next of kin after completion of all legal formalities.

This is the fourth reported attempt to rape, abduction and murder of the fairer sex in less than a month in Bhaderwah but surprisingly none of the accused in any of the case has been arrested so far. The crime incidents increased at Bhaderwah from the last so many months and it is second murder in two last days. People at Bhaderwah are living in fear due to inefficiency of the police to control crime.
