JAIPUR, Dec 8 (Agencies): Loktantrik Janata Dal leader Sharad Yadav on Saturday regretted 'body shaming' Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia in one of his statements in poll-bound Rajasthan. Yadav said that he would also write to Raje to apologise to her if she felt bad. "I saw her statement. I have very old family relations with her. If my words hurt her, I express my regret. I will also write a letter to her," he said.
Yadav had made personal comments on her, calling her fat and asking people to give her rest while addressing a rally in Alwar on the last day of campaigning in Rajasthan on Wednesday. He had later defended himself saying it was a joke.
The Rajasthan CM had hit back at Yadav asserting that she felt insulted and demanded action against the former JDU leader. "I feel insulted. This is the insult of women," Raje said adding that she was "absolutely shocked" and did not expect such a comment from an experienced leader.
She also said that the leader who had close relations with her family could not control his language. "It is important that the Election Commission takes cognisance of this and sets an example so people don't repeat such a thing in future," the Chief Minister asserted.
Calling Raje a daughter of Madhya Pradesh, he said people need to give her some rest as she was very tired. She was thin earlier, and was now fat, he was heard as saying in the video. He was later quoted as saying that he had no intentions of hurting her and it was not meant to be derogatory in any way.
Yadav was campaigning for the Loktantrik Janata Dal in Alwar district's Mundwar constituency, one of the five seats where the Congress has entered into an alliance with various parties.
