SRINAGAR, Dec 6: Following Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) call, a candle light protest was held at Nawakadal area in old city today to highlight rights abuses in Kashmir ahead of International Human Rights Day to be observed on 10th of this month.
A group of women this evening held candle light protest at Nawakadal area in old city against worst human rights violations in Kashmir.
JRL a conglomerate of various separatist groups headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mohammad Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has asked people to hold peaceful protests in Kashmir on International Human Rights Day.
Demanding immediate end to civilian killings and free use of lethal weapons including bullets and pellets on people, the protesting women said peace is a far-fetched dream to accomplish until human rights violations are not brought to end.
They said world community should wake up from slumbers and break its silence against the brutality meted out to the people of Kashmir.
“We have gathered here to express our concern over the growing human rights violations in Kashmir. We appeal the world community to break its silence and act tough against the enemies of peace,” they said.
The protesting women alleged that people of Kashmir continue to face bullets and pellets by government forces with none raising voice in favor of oppressed Kashmiri nation.
