Two crushed to death in truck accident

SUNDERBANI, July 12: A truck driver and cleaner were killed in a road mishap at Ria Salyot area of Sunderbani, in the wee hours today.
The deceased were identified as truck driver Romesh Pal, 46, son of Mela Ram of Mukarian, Hoishiarpur (Punjab) and cleaner Rahul Kumar, 30, son of Lal Chand of Doda.
Police said that a truck bearing registration number PB07Y-9491, loaded with bananas and headed for cross-LOC trade in Poonch, and coming from Punjab, turned turtle in the middle of the road at Ria Salyot on July 10 night. The driver and cleaner had a narrow escape and they escaped with minor bruises. They were shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Sunderbani where after first-aid they were discharged the same day. The truck driver and cleaner arranged a crane and restored the truck to its actual position at around 11 PM last night. They tried to drive away the truck towards Jammu for repair but the engine failed to start after which they decided to bring a mechanic to the spot for temporary repairs.
As it grew dark, the duo slept near the door of the truck and at 3 AM in the wee hours another truck bearing registration number Jk02AP-5281 loaded with urea hit the stationed truck and overturned it. Both driver and cleaner were crushed under it and they died on the spot.
