JAMMU, Nov 19: A policeman was injured in an incident of firing at the official residence of the Director General of Police at Bikram Chowk on Monday.
However it’s not yet clear whether he accidentally shot himself or was fired at. Initially it was described as a case of an abortive bid yet none confirmed it officially.
“Constable Subash Chander from Nowshera was injured in the firing incident at the DGP’s official residence at Bikram Chowk here. He was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital, where his condition is stated to be critical,” said a police officer.
“We cannot say whether it is a case of accidental fire or suicide. His rifle was lying close to him,” the officer said responding to a query as whether it was an abortive bid as was being reported earlier. He said that DGP Dilbagh Singh had not shifted to his official residence as yet.
Police registered a case and started investigation, he added.
Earlier SHO Gandhi Nagar Sunil Singh Jasrotia had told media persons that the Constable presumably shot himself with his service rifle at the DGP’s residence in Jammu. However he too hastened to add that the investigation was on as whether it was an accidental fire or suicide bid.
