VC’s T20 Cup: PAU, DU, HPU, GNDU win ties

JAMMU, Nov 25: The PAU Ludhiana, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Amritsar, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) and Delhi University (DU) won their ties in Group-A, B, C and D respectively in the ongoing All India Vice-Chancellor’s Twenty20 Cup Cricket Tournament, hosted by University of Jammu on the campus here today.

Among today’s winners, GNDU made it a big 75 runs victory outplaying DDU Gorakpur in all the departments. Lost in their opening tie to Kashmir University yesterday, GNDU looked entirely different side against DDU today.

Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, GNDU set a target of 140 runs for the loss of seven wickets, which, in reply, DDU Gorakpur could not chase. In stipulated overs, DDU could make only 64 runs losing their six wickets.

Hindel Sharma and Ashwani were main contributors to GNDU total with 30 and 23 runs in their respective accounts. From DDU, Daya Shankar bagged three wickets.

Later, DDU Gorkpur played full 20 overs making just 64 runs for six wickets. Daya Shanker, who earlier bowled well, remained the top scorer with 17 runs while Ravi added 11. From GNDU, Hindel and Ashwani shared two wickets each.

For his all round performance, Hindel Sharma was declared man of the match. He was presented the trophy and a cricket bat by Vice Chancellor of JU, Prof MPS Ishar, who also witnessed the match.

In another scheduled match of the day, PAU Ludhiana trounced Jalgoun University by 16 runs. Earlier, PAU Ludhiana set a target of 133 runs for eight. In reply, Jalgoun could not chase and the whole side bowled out for 116 runs in 18.5 overs. Jagtar Chand of the winner team was named man of the match and was given away the trophy by Dean Students Welfare, JU, Prof NK Tripathi.

Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh (HP) University registered a 32 runs win over Mumbai University. Batting first, HP made 141 runs for nine wickets with Lalit Kumar (43 off 34 balls, 3x4, 1x6) being highest run getter. Rajesh Chowhan added 41 runs. Sanjay Pawar claimed five wickets from Mumbai University.

In reply, Mumbai University lost all their wickets for 109 runs in 117.5 overs. Later, Rajesh Chowhan was adjudged man of the match and was presented the trophy by Registrar of JU, Prof Naresh Padha.

In another scheduled league match of the day, Delhi University registered a four-wicket win against Punjabi University (PU) Patiala.

Batting first, after winning the toss, PU bowled out for 108 runs in 18.1 overs and they allowed DU to overhaul the total in 19.3 overs making 112 runs for six wickets. Dinesh was declared man of the match for taking four wickets for the winners.

FIXTURE: Morning: University of Jammu to take on IGNOU Delhi while SKUAST Jammu to face MANUU Hyderabad. Afternoon: Kashmir University to meet JMI Delhi and PU Chandigarh to play against SKUAST Kashmir.
