SRINAGAR, Oct 1: Police today foiled the Assembly Gherao program of Jamait Ahli Hadees in Srinagar after arresting many top leaders of the organisation.
Police arrested the leaders when peaceful demonstrators attempted to move towards to Assembly Complex from Press Enclave in an attempt to pressurise their demand for passing of Transworld University Bill.
According to KNS, Jamait Ahli Hadees held peaceful protest demonstrations at Lal Chowk and moved towards the Press Enclave. Demonstrators were demanding passing of the long pending Trans world University Bill. Police swung into action when protesters made an attempt to proceed towards to the Assembly Complex. Upon resistance from protesters, police arrested the top leaders of the Jamait. Later on, dozens of the protesters voluntarily courted arrest before the police.
Talking to KNS, General Secretary of Jamait Abdur Rehman Bhat said that protest is our democratic tool to highlight our concerns and to make authorities attentive towards to our grievances. “We believe in democratic method of protest and reaction, but should we call for any thing more than that, our organization is ready for that,” said Bhat.
President Jamait Ghulam Rossol Malik said that his sincere appeal to all legislators is to show some commitment to the educated youth of the Valley. “If State Government to fails to pass the bill we’ll write to Member of Parliaments, Ambassadors and international community about the discrimination committed against Muslims. If Mata Vaishnodevi University could be established despite Cabinet rejection, why cannot Muslims have Transworld University having approval of Cabinet,” Bhat said.
