Youth clash with forces during searches in twin Shopian villages

ANANTNAG , Sep 9: Large number of people on Sunday participated in the funeral prayers of ISJK militant who was killed by the unknown gunmen in Naseembagh area of Srinagar on Saturday while as clashes erupted during two separate search operations in southern Shopian district.
Asif Nazir Dar from Panzgam village of Pulwama was shot dead by the unknown gunmen near Naseembagh area of Srinagar Saturday afternoon. Police later recovered a pistol and two magazines from his possessions and claimed that the slain was a militant associated with ISJK.
Though the body of the slain was handedover to his family late in the evening , however he was laid to rest today at his native village .
Locals sources said thousands of people started marching towards Panzgam, the native village of the slain since early morning to participate in his last rites.
A witness said at least five rounds of funeral prayers were held for the slain militant as people in large numbers continued to pour in for hours. He was later buried amid slogans.
Meanwhile clashes broke out between government forces and youth in twin villages of Shopian district during the search operations on Sunday.
Reports said the forces including army and special operations group laid a siege to two villages Tikkipora and Ronipora after receiving input about the presence of militants. As soon as the forces began conducting searches, they said, people mostly youth took to streets and clashed with them by pelting them with stones. The forces responded with tearsmoke shelling to drive away the stone throwing protesters. However no reports of clashes were received during the clashes which continued for hours together. Forces, local sources said, later called off both the search operations.
