Cong observes nationwide Bharat bandh on Sep 10
GA Mir demands to bring Petrol, diesel under GST ambit
JAMMU, Sep 8: As part of the nationwide call for Bharat bandh on September 10, over the unprecedented hike of Petrol, Diesel, Gas and other essential commodities, Congress has appealed to the people especially different social, political and business and transport organizations to support the bandh, keeping in view the plight of common man in the country.

Speaking to media here today, JKPCC Chief GA Mir along with senior leaders said that Bharat Bandh call has been given by Congress and other like minded parties and organizations to put pressure and draw attention of Modi Government towards the plight of poor and common man due to unprecedented hike of Petrol, Diesel, Gas and all other essential commodities, of common use. He said that bandh call is in the overall interest of general public, hence we seek support of all opposition parties, civil society, social, trade, business, transport organizations and NGOs engaged in the cause of service of people.

Accompanied by ex-MP Madan Lal Sharma, Vice-Presidents Mula Ram & Raman Bhalla, besides Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, JKPCC Chief claimed that Modi Government has already collected over 11 Lakh Crores as taxes over petrol, diesel and Gas, which is an open loot of the budget of common people. He gave the comparative figures of price of crude oil in May 2014 during UPA and now during NDA and the rates of petrol, diesel and gas during UPA when rates of crude oil were at peak & now when it is far less.

He said excise duty on petrol since May 2014 was increased by 211.7% & on diesel by 443.06%. The exercise duty has been hiked during BJP Government 12 times, he added, questioning Achhe Din of Modi Government. The cost of Gas cylinder (Non-Subsidized) has gone up from Rs 414 to 754 per cylinder and that of subsidized cylinder from Rs. 412 to Rs. 496 during the period.

He said Modi government is selling petrol to 15 countries at just Rs. 34 per Litre and Diesel to 29 countries at Rs. 37 per Litre as against Rs. 78 to Rs. 86 (petrol) and Rs.70 to Rs. 75 (diesel) in India.

He said Congress party time and again demanded that Petrol and diesel be brought under GST ambit which would reduce its price by Rs. 10 to Rs. 15 per Litre but Modi Government and BJP has remained unmoved while the common people continues to suffers. So we have no option but call for Bharat Bandh to move the Modi government.

He hoped that all concerned citizens and organizations would extend support to the call and observe voluntary bandh in various parts of state on 10th of September from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the interest of general public.

The Congress cadres along with other like minded people would organized peaceful protest demonstrations on the day in different parts of the state.
