Police action against protesting teachers on Teachers’ Day

SRINAGAR, Sep 5: Police swung into action against protesting teachers, taking out a rally in support of their demands on teachers’ day, here today.
The protesting teachers observed the teachers’ day as black day.
The teachers accused state government of adopting an apathetic attitude towards their long-pending demands.
Hundreds of teachers assembled here at Sher-e-Kashmir Park Srinagar demanding implementation of 7th pay commission and de-linking of SSA salaries from MHRD to state budget. As the protesters hit to roads and tried to proceed towards SKICC, police swung into action and detained scores of them. Police also charged teachers with canes resulting in injuries to some of the teachers. Police also used colour cannons to disperse the protesting teachers.
The protesting teachers alleged that police used excessive force against them. “Police treated us like cattle and thrashed us mercilessly,” they told media.
Teachers also protested in different headquarters of Kashmir Valley.
