SRINAGAR, July 9: The professor from south Kashmir’s Anantnag town, Barkat Nida, who invented a turbine to generate power from low flowing waters is all set for a commercial demonstration of his invention. The inventor is also going to submit a proposal to the government in which he claims to supply electricity to half of the Anantnag district from a ‘Martand canal’ through his invention.
“Since the machine has been put at trial three times in Martand canal Aishmuqam and all the trials were successful. Now I am going for a commercial demonstration of this latest technology. During the demonstration we will supply the power to some nearby village. The demonstration will cost at least Rs 10 lakh and I am going to write to Science and Technology for funding. If the department fails to provide funds for the same I will keep on demonstrating my invention even if I will have to sell my assets.”
The innovator said that as per estimate the river can generate 16 MWs of electricity. “The length of the river is 25 kms out of which 16 kms are usable. To generate the 16 MWs from the river will cost 74 crore rupees for which I have prepared a proposal to be sent to the government in next two weeks. If government approves my project I will ensure that power for half of the district is generated only from 16 kms usable part of the river,” Nida said.
He claimed that if his invention besides puttying end to the power crisis in the state will also provide employment to laks of people. “In the first phase the invention is going to accommodate nearly 3 lakh youth thus can solve the rising problem of unemployment in the state,” the inventor said.
He said that the state is loosing 14 crore rupees per hour by not utilizing the low flowing water resources. “I can claim with confidence this technology can save the state 14 crore rupees per hour that it is loosing by not utilizing the low flowing water resources like Martand canal. Besides the technology is economical too,” he said.
Disappointed over the response of the authorities so far, Nida said, “ I have met and briefed many ministers about my invention. One of the intelligent ministers asked me those question about my innovation that I had been asked even by the experts at international level. Finally he got convinced and assured me of managing funds for the demonstration by taking up the issue with power department. But when I visited him other day there was no response as if he had forgotten it overnight,” Inventor said. He said that had he been living in any other developed state or country his invention would have been in use right now.
“Since the news report about my invention appeared in Kashmir Times I have been getting international response. Since I am the member of International center for small hydro power (UNIDO), I have been continuously receiving calls and mails from different people across the world and country. But I will think over any deal with any international or national corporation only after seeing the response from the state government,” he added.
