City markets start swarming ahead of Eid-Ul-Azha

SRINAGAR, Aug 19: Despite being Sunday the markets across the city remained crowded ahead of Eid-Ul-Azha which is being celebrated on Wednesday.
While the shoppers in large numbers were seen thronging the markets for shopping purposes, a huge rush was witnessed across the city as people in large numbers were seen buying animals for sacrifice.
Flocks of sacrificial animals were available in city markets to be sold on Eid Ul Azha (which is also called as Bakkar Eid and Eid E Qurban) for the purpose of sacrifice.
Markets across the city remained swarmed with shoppers while the heart of the city Lal Chowk was flocked by shoppers.
Though it was Sunday, massive traffic movement was witnessed along busy routes of Lal Chowk, Dalgate, Nowhatta and many other places while traffic police faced a tough time trying to regulate the traffic movement.
Whereas the festive fever grips Kashmir, people in huge numbers were seen buying different commodities on Sunday ahead of Eid-ul- Azha.
Despite scorching weather conditions Eid shopping rush has picked up in city markets for past few days. There has been huge demand for sacrificial animal as flocks of animals have remained available in markets for sale.
The busy city center Lal Chowk remained under the grip of festive fever on Sunday as shops and makeshift stalls kept attracting shoppers in large numbers.
Shoppers in large numbers could be seen buying garments, kids wear, hosiery items, eatables and other essential commodities from the shops.
Shop owners said the shopping is expected to increase in next two days.
Meanwhile the traffic police officials revealed that the department was facing tough time to ensure smooth regulation of traffic across the city.
They said large number of vehicles and slow traffic movement was causing immense traffic chaos.
A senior official at City traffic police department revealed that traffic diversions were likely to be put into place to ensure hassle free traffic movement during next one week.
"We are planning traffic diversions so that traffic movement goes hassle free along busy routes of the city. Moreover, we have deployed additional manpower to check traffic mess across the city in view of Eid ul Azha," an official revealed.
