MUMBAI, Aug 17: Former England opener Geoff Boycott, who was planning to resume his Test Match Special (TMS) cricket commentary career from the third Test match between England and India had delayed his appearance in the box.
The 77-year-old Boycott recently underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery, but is recovering well and was hoping to be in the commentary box during Trent Bridge Test (beginning on 18th August).
Speaking exclusively over telephone from his Wetherby home, he said, "I feel weakness and have no energy to sit for the five full days and therefore have decided to commentate in the last two Tests matches".
"I am hoping to be fully fit till then". India's 4th and 5th Test matches will be played between August 30-Sept. 4 (Southampton) and September 7-11 (London) respectively.
His fellow BBC commentator Jonathan Agnew has visited him after his successful surgery.
Tribute to Wadekar :Boycott also paid rich tribute to former India captain Ajit Wadekar, who passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday night.
"I heard the news about him. Wadekar was a fine cricketer and a wonderful captain. The game of cricket will surely miss him".
Boycott has played few of his 108 Test matches against Indian team led by Ajit Wadekar.
Former Pakistani captain Asif Iqbal has also sent a message : "Very saddened by the news of Ajit passing away. I have fond memories of Pakistan teams tour of 1979/80 of India when Ajit played host during our Bombay test. A very gentle, humble and friendly person, he will be missed by hie fans and fellow cricketers. May God rest his soul in peace and give strength to his family to bear this huge loss".
