JAMMU, Aug 13: The already tainted premier cricket body of State, Jammu, and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) finds itself again in a controversy as Hyderya Sports Trust alleges favouritism in the recent selection of players for the Vijay Hazare trophy.
According to the players, JKCA has recently released a list of 35 selected players for the Vijay Hazare trophy which will start in the month of September. It has been learned that some of the selected players who are in foreign countries figure in the selected list.
“How come the players who are currently in foreign countries, and have not even attended the trails got selected,” questions Mirza Musadiq Hussain secretary Hyderya Sports Trust.
The trust also alleged that selection was not done on the basis of merit but nepotism that has ruined the selection criteria for the players. “The players who have a good record of performances in their account were dropped for no reasons,” alleged Hussain. Players like Abid Nabi who had represented India at under 19 level at international level was also dropped.
Besides Nabi, other performing cricketers who were dropped from the 35 member squad are Imran Haroon, Umar Nisar, Obaid Haroon and Umar Aalam.
The Trust also questioned the outcome of the recently concluded JK Premier League in which 640 teams across the state have participated. “What kind of talent hunt was that not even a single player out of 640 teams figured in the selection,” Hussian asked.
