SRINAGAR, Aug 8: All Tribal Coordination Committee (ATCC) today sought the intervention of governor N N Vohra in protecting Talib Hussain, key witness in Rasana rape and murder case, in police custody.
It alleged that Talib was framed by Samba police in a fake case and his life is in danger in police custody. ATCC also demanded shifting of the case from Samba to Srinagar.
The leaders of ATCC at a press conference here accused the police of subjecting social activist and key witness in Kathua minor’s rape and murder case, Talib Hussain to third degree torture to keep him away from recording his statement before the court.
“Police has not only tortured him brutally but also denied all medical facilities to Talib Hussain who is a star witness in Kathua rape and murder case. All this was done on the instruction of BJP leader, Chowdhry Lal Singh who wants the case to be hushed up,” said ATCC general secretary, Mohammad Rafiq addressing a presser.
The Gujjar leader further accused police of implicating Talib Hussain, a lawyer and a social activist in false cases to keep him away from recording his statement before the court as a key witness in Rassana girl’s case.
He said besides rape, Talib was booked under arms and explosive Act in order that he cannot be released from jail so that the accused can take benefit out of his detention.
Rafiq who was joined by several other members of the group alleged that police did implicate Talib on the directions of Lal Singh whose sole motive is to communalise Kathua rape and murder.
“Being star witness in Kathua rape and murder case, Talib was first arrested in false case and then police beat him up in the lockup. His wife was influenced to make adverse statement against Talib,” Rafiq said.
He claimed that attempts are on to drain out Muslims who have been living in Rassana village of Kathua district over the centuries.
The ATCC leader appealed the higher-ups of police including Director General and Inspector General of Police Jammu range to do justice with oppressed Muslims of Kathua who lives under constant threat ever since Lal Singh warned them off 1947 like consequences.
