Yatra suspended from Jammu for 2 days

SRINAGAR, Aug 5: In view of the shutdown call, Amarnath yatra has been suspended for two days from Jammu from today.
However, the pilgrims camping in Pahalgam and Baltal base camps are being allowed to move towards the holy Amarnath cave for the pilgrimage.
The two day shutdown called by separatist, trade and civil societies in support of Article 35A began today.
The shutdown not only affected normal life in Kashmir but several parts of Chenab Valley in Jammu including Ramban, Kishtawar and Doda.
A police official said the yatra was suspended from Jammu as a precautionary measure in view of the strike called by the separatists.
A few hundred pilgrims camping in Jammu to join the yatra to the 3,880 metre high holy cave shrine of were not allowed from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp this morning, the officials said.
Groups of people also staged peaceful rallies at several places including Gool, Sangaldan and Banihal in support of the Article 35A, the officials said, adding local public transport remained off the roads in many areas of the hilly districts.
