Drive against polythene bags
Such measures appear to be knee-jerk reactions of civic authorities but no a solution
ActIT Jammu, ASP.net Projects, Java, Vb.net, C# Training Jammu
Drive against polythene carry bags launched by the municipal corporations in both the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu has not paid rich dividends as they continue to flood the markets because the demand for this commodity has not declined and there are no immediate alternatives available. Despite the fact that some of the cloth bags have been have replaced the polythene bags to some extent but they are not sufficient for meeting the demand of the market. In fact, vegetable sellers and commodities of daily use sellers are using them for the convenience of the consumers because the latter are not carrying the carry bags for their personal use. Same is the case with bigger stores which sell a whole range of daily use items. Moreover, the civic authorities need to hit the nail on the head by targeting the manufacturers and suppliers of polythene bags. Unless the production of such polythene bags is stopped they will continue to pour into the market. The civic officials also need to differentiate between the food grade polythene packs and carry bags because these are two different commodities required by the food processing industrial units and those engaged in manufacture of bakery food stuffs for packaging and supplies. In the process of seizure of polythene bags, the authorities have also impounded food grade plastic containers and polythene packaging material which does not justify the action of the authorities. It is a sad state of affairs that civic officials are happy with seizure of polythene bags and displaying them before the mediamen instead of taking measures to check this menace at its root in the larger interest of the society. The authorities need to focus on long term measures besides creating awareness among the people to discourage their use by the consumers.
