Protest against kidnapping of minor girl at Bhaderwah
Swarn Singh/Saidullah
BHADERWAH/DODA, July 6: Agitated over police failure to recover a 9-year-old girl allegedly kidnapped from Nalthi village of Bhaderwah three days back, people of Athkar Sartangal including relatives of the victim today held strong protests.

The kidnapped girl has been identified as daughter of Rakesh Kumar Bhagat of Nalthi, Bhaderwah.

Early this morning, hundreds of people and students of village Nalthi, Kholra and Basti started marching towards Seri Bazar Bhaderwah and started shouting slogans against administration and local police for failure on all fronts to recover the minor girl. Protesters when reached near Bhaderwah Campus, police stopped them and tried to pacify them but they broke the cordon of police and reached at Seri Bazar Bhaderwah. They tried to march further towards ASP office Bhaderwah.

Keeping in view the intensity of protest, ADC Doda Ghulam Nabi Balwan rushed to the spot and talked to parents and relatives of the kidnapped girl. He sought two days to arrest and identify the accused. After his assurance, protestors dispersed from the spot peacefully. The locals warned district officials and police department that to hold strong protest in next days if the girl was not recovered by the police within couple of days.

They have given three days ultimatum to the administration and have threatened if administration fail to trace the girl they will intensified the protest and the administration will be responsible for this.

Meanwhile, students of Government Higher Secondary School Sartangal and others schools also boycotted their classes.

It is notable to mention here that the kidnapped girl is a student of 5th class and when she was kidnapped she had gone to the spring to fetch water on July 2, 2013 from where Tirath Singh Bhagat, 29, of the same village allegedly kidnapped her.

The parents of the girl searched her in Himan and other relatives home but failed to find her anywhere in the locality. And on next day, they submitted missing report of the girl in Police Station Bhaderwah and allegedly abduction report against the Tirath Bhagat resident of Nalthi Bhaderwah.

Bhaderwah police have registered the case under FIR number 98 of 2013 under section 363 RPC and have started manhunt to arrest the alleged accused identified as Tirath Bhagat, who is absconding after the incident told police officials.

It is pertinent to mention here that in the last month a twenty two-year-old ASHA worker was molested and attacked at Chattra-Seri Bhadarwah by the, accused Jeetu son of Ram Prasad a resident of village Cheeka Seri. The said accused is still at large due to inefficiency and negligence of the police officials alleged Sachin Singh.

The protesters demanded to launch a search operation to find out the missing child fearing that she could have been abducted by anti national elements that have entered Bhadarwah in the garb of tourists, masons or labourers.

“Parents of the abducted child have been spending sleepless nights and searching their child with co-villagers, but the administration has failed to show its presence at this time of sorrow, which is a proof of its being insensitive towards public safety,” they alleged. They threatened to organise Bhadarwah bandh in coming days if the authorities failed to recover the missing child in coming days.
